It also operates as an external monitor for some smartphones, but just a handful from Samsung and Huawei. I you should not have any of people to take a look at, and plugging it into other phones will only prompt a NO SIGNAL message. The Vinpok Split is very portable, and there is certainly no doubt it’s neat. The DS is a touch screen but doesn't provide all the functions I expected. So the PS2 and DS screens together provide a portable dual screen experience but with limitations mostly due to the lower resolution. The screen is lightweight and fits easily in the small bag I use for my PS2 including the fold up stand.

Weighing just 1.4 pounds and measuring 8.8mm (0.35 inches) in thickness, the Split is leaner than most laptops, and though it has a large 15.6-inch display, the bezels around it are small enough that the overall dimensions of the Split are less than that of most 15-inch laptops. The Split comes with a magnetic cover flap that doubles as a kickstand. With the cover on and folded, it feels in hand like a thinner iPad Pro, or a menu at a fancy restaurant.

Ben SinThe Split can be connected to most devices that offer screen output, including laptops, gaming consoles, TV boxes and of course, the Huawei Mate 20 series. Connection is via either USB-C or HDMI. With HDMI, the Split will need a power source. If connected via USB-C, the Split will draw power from the device.
I connected my Huawei Mate 20 Pro to the Split and the latter powered on immediately. After about eight seconds of EMUI Desktop boot-up, the Mate 20 Pro was running on the Split, in a desktop computer style window.
When in EMUI Desktop mode, the Mate 20 Pro's screen turns into an input device, serving as both touch pad and keyboard. The Split also supports touch screen input, but just basic tapping (no pinching or multi-touch). This is okay for short usage, but for real work a proper keyboard is needed. So I connected a bluetooth foldable keyboard. Once paired, I had what is essentially a full-on computer set-up.

Ben SinEMUI Desktop doesn't run as smooth as a premium laptop from 2018, but it operates well enough for those who need a desktop experience in a pinch. You can open web browsers in full desktop format with multiple tabs visible, and open multiple windows or apps on the same screen. You won't be able to do real video editing or play games on this, but writing long emails or, for someone like me, writing articles, the experience offered here is close enough to a 'normal' laptop.
The Split wasn't just made for Huawei's EMUI Desktop, of course. It can be connected to laptops and work as a second monitor (you can even use two Splits which can turn a single laptop into a three-monitor set-up). This is arguably a more practical use case: the ability to add a second screen to a on-the-go work machine without sacrificing much in portability.
If you have a new laptop that uses USB-C ports, you'll likely be able to just plug in a cable and start using the Split as a second monitor right away. If you're on an older laptop, you'll likely need to connect via HDMI cable, and then power the Split separately.
Over the past three years, I've been continuously looking for the most portable work set-up possible without sacrificing productivity. Part of this is due to the nature of my job: I am constantly on the road reporting from tech trade shows or launches, and I have to file copy on the spot. But another part of the reason is because I'm just a gadget geek who is always looking to upgrade my set-up.

VinpokAnd the ability to simulate a desktop experience out of my phone on a large yet portable screen, or be able to add a second screen to my laptop on the fly is undeniably cool. I think other gadget fans agree, because the Split has been backed by more than 8,000 people, raising over a million dollars already.
